Description

Auckland weather is notoriously fickle. Storm clouds swiftly give way to sunshine.

These temperamental conditions are caused by neighbouring oceans which double as the cities playgrounds. Hence, Aucklanders check the weather religiously.

So, to demonstrate how metservice.com reports the weather as fast as it changes, we constructed an outdoor web browser, which displayed live, real-time weather, as it happened.

It was pretty well loved for a billboard that was more of a hole than an ad.

The most accurate weather reporting ever. 24/7. Rain, hail or shine.

Execution

Media placement was integral to the success of this concept. We needed a space that had high foot and vehicle traffic, but also an unobstructed view of the sky behind it. A tricky assignment when most outdoor sites in the Auckland CBD are up against buildings.

Outcome

With the app launching in late April / on April 28, this innovation is too fresh to deliver measurable results.
