We placed special mirrors inside the restrooms of a few major hang out spots. Once the person faced this special mirror, a gruesome image from the movie would appear, scaring the hell out of him or her. The picture of a woman's tortured spirit was placed in the mirror of the Ladies Room and an image of a man slashing his own throat was in the Men's Room. The copy read: Evil is on the other side. Mirrors. August 14. Only in theaters.
Outcome
The word of mouth generated by the special mirrors was immeasurable, but outstanding. Although "Mirrors" opened right behind Daddy Yankee's "Talento de Barrio"it was by long the #1 US movie ticket seller in Puerto Rico during its first week. Moreover, "Mirrors" remained in theaters for a total of 8 weeks, in a market where movies stay in theaters only for 4 to 5 weeks.
