Description

Technology has democratized media and how businesses serve ads, yet we haven't seen the same level of democratization in creative production. We knew it had to be easier for people with great ideas to bring them to life.

To solve this problem for millions of small businesses, we turned to a piece of technology we already knew they had, the mobile phone. Or as we saw it, the Mobile Studio.

With a high-resolution camera, and a ton of free consumer apps, the mobile phone houses everything you need to build beautifully effective ads for your business, at a near zero cost. The solution was already sitting in the pockets of millions, yet had been overlooked. Our challenge was to reframe the mobile phone from a tool for connection, to a tool for creation, teaching business owners how it could be used to create ads that grow their business.

Execution

Since March 2016 we have globally targeted small businesses with a multitude of Mobile Studio messaging.

Through Facebook, Instagram and email marketing we ran 7 campaigns that highlighted how businesses could create ads using just their mobile phone, including topics such as shooting a 360 photo of your business, remixing your existing website assets to create ads, and how to shoot looping gifs with Boomerang. Every campaign drove to a destination on the Facebook for Business website, which further housed e-learning modules, success stories, webinars, and our dedicated Mobile Studio website.

Offline we brought Mobile Studio to small business owners through an integration into our US and European 'Boost Your Business' tour, designed to teach SMBs how to grow their business. We held seminars, workshops, and live demos showing businesses how to create stop motions, light their products, and more with just their phone.

Outcome

Mobile Studio reached over 1 million small businesses and counting, teaching them to create beautifully effective ads using their mobile phone.

Our campaigns had click-throughs rates as high as 8%, and our websites had over 500,000 views. However the real result, was small business owners reaching out from across the globe to share how this low-cost production solution transformed their business. Distinctive Gardens, a garden center in an isolated area of Illinois sold out their stock in the space of days. Inspiralized, a cooking start-up did the same. Felix Gray, an e-commerce eye brand who created mobile cinemagraphs to reduce their CPA by 63%. Baked a local NYC bakery sold out all their holiday pies through their new stop-motion ads in a week. Pescaria, a tiny Italian restaurant saw a 5-hour queue for their new store. These are only a few of the transformations as a result of Mobile Studio.
