The band mounted a stunt to announce that they were changing their musical genre: from alternative-pop to death metal.
That they were changing their name: From Moonstar88 to MONSTER88.
Social media went wild.
Execution
The idea consisted only of one unboosted Facebook post, placed on February 21, 2018.
Outcome
The band earned 475K engagements, a 1,278% boost in Facebook page views, and a 576% gain in page likes--without spending a single cent.
Despite the collapse of organic reach on Facebook, the idea got the attention of about 2 million fans.
Some even did metal covers of their songs.
Fellow musicians also gave their say on the band’s image change.
People so believed it that even their past vocalist took it a bit too seriously.
And this all started with just one unboosted post…that segued into one headbanging experience.
