Description
Sexting is rampant and for the first time in a generation, so are sexual transmitted diseases. But without a condom emoji, talking about safe sex is too awkward.
Rather than wait for a 2 year petition, on World AIDS Day, we launched a free worldwide condom emoji keyboard for MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, complete with a sex-positive PSA.
So whether you use WhatsApp, or Tinder, whether you're sexting the donut and banana, or peach and eggplant, for the first time…everyone can add a condom. And for the first time, that’s sexy.
Execution
We chose emojis because it is precisely the new language of love for this target audience.
We created the MTV SafeSext Keyboard full of different themed condoms ready to be sent and shared on any kind of smart mobile device, through any SMS platform.
Outcome
In just 24 hours, over 64,000 condom emojis had been sent across the globe. And the film had been viewed over 3 million times on Facebook, and shared more than any other MTV Instagram post ever. About anything. Teens were tagging each other in the post, commenting on it more than 10,000 times, which means we succeeded in making safe sex something kids could actually talk about.
