In this film we see the Mums of past D&AD Pencil winners explaining what their children were like when they were young.

They explain how proud they are of their children’s achievement in winning a Pencil (even if they weren’t always sure their kids would be so successful).

Winning an award is a proud achievement for any creative or designer. But really, there’s no one prouder of your achievements than your mum – even when she doesn’t quite understand them.

We contacted some of the most esteemed names in the industry – Sally Campbell, Chris Allison, Ali Ali, Luiz Sanches, Joanna Monteiro, José María Roca de Viñals, José Maria Piera, Toni Segarra, Rebecca Williams and Lisa Smith – and asked if we could have a chat with their mums.

We travelled to four continents to interview our mum’s. No script, no acting involved and the first interactions with them happened on the day of filming. 

We had no idea what we were going to get and although this may sound risky, it came with one guarantee. 

By speaking with mums we would capture content that was charming, funny, full of strange anecdotes and above all, brimming with pride.
