Description

The creative idea is that the argument for using non-violent methods to discipline children should be simple enough for a child to understand. The message needed to be simple yet powerful and in a medium parents would be familiar with. A children’s book with a difference, gave the idea added poignancy.'Sarah’s Day Out' is a children’s book for adults.

It depicts the escalation of physically punishing a child and shows the long-lasting emotional and physical effects, using the simple illustrative style of a children’s book. Leaving the reader with the offer of help from the NSPCC helpline.

Outcome

4,000 'Sarah’s Day Out' books were printed. Some have been distributed to selected journalists, others to childcare professionals as a vehicle to help communicate to parents the negative effects of hitting children. Response from the client, NSPCC, and professionals is extremely positive and ultimate feedback and success will be assessed late in 2003.
