OVERVIEW

Background

Abraço is a Portuguese NGO that fights prejudice towards people with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), a virus that can cause AIDS (Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome). On its 30th anniversary, Abraço decided to launch a new campaign asking people to have an HIV test, breaking prejudice against the HIV test and the most common fear associated with AIDS: being positive in the HIV test is a death sentence. It is not. With current treatments, the virus can be made undetectable and non-transmissible. Composed of three films, the “Normal Life” campaign tells the story of three different people who tested positive for the HIV virus and, despite that, lead completely normal lives.

Execution

"Normal Life" is a campaign with three spots - "Hugo", "Rita" and "Mario". Each of them tells the story of someone who has tested positive for the HIV virus and yet lives a completely normal life.

Outcome

The “Normal Life” campaign first aired on June 3, 2021 and got immediately media coverage, being shared on social media by many influencers and several celebrities in Portugal, reaching over half a million impressions. "Normal Life" brought back to the national debate the importance of taking the HIV test, helping to break the prejudice towards the HIV test itself and to the people who tested positive and, thanks to current treatments, lead completely normal lives.
