Description
If there’s one thing boys love more than commercials, it’s toys based on commercials. That’s why Old Spice turned their Wolfthorn deodorant into an action figure––complete with a theme song. And while teen boys may have rolled their eyes at Wolfthorn’s over-the-top macho vibe and overt Old Spice branding, the furry community . . . was a little more into it. Hundreds of pieces of unsolicited custom fan art poured in with over 50,000 reposts, and the community continues to engage months later. Marketing success?
Execution
Rad Talkin’ Wolfthorn initially was just intended to live on YouTube with social support surrounding the content, but quickly made it its way into the furry community’s homes on Twitter and Tumblr. Quickly, this subculture latched onto the video, and its fierce virality captured the hearts and shares of hunky furries everywhere.
Outcome
Although teen boys didn't seem to care much for Rad Talkin' Wolfthorn, the furry community . . . did. A lot. As hundreds of pieces of unsolicited custom fan art poured in with over 50,000 reposts, the community continues to engage months later. Marketing success?
