Description
Of 30 000 schools in South Africa, 23 000 are dysfunctional. The lack of a functional education system is at the root of several problems we face as a country. By engaging with schools on various levels (including staff & learner workshops and school ground renovation projects), OSAAT envisions becoming a beacon of light to the world; showing what can be achieved through educational reform.
To this end, OSAAT adopted its first high school, Forte High in Soweto, in 2008. Since its involvement with the school, their matric pass rate has accelerated from 52% in 2008 to 80% in 2011.
Execution
Playing on the duality between a beacon of light and a school tie, we developed a logo for OSAAT that is directly aligned with the organisation's key vision.
School stationery informed the design of OSAAT's collateral.
Perforated business cards are ring-bound as notebooks, while Letterheads and Compliment Slips are pad-bound and punched to resemble writing pads. The Corporate Folder uses an old-school prong fastener.
Like a scholar's exercise books, the labels on the front of the Folder and CD Sleeve allow them to be personalised for recipients. Red ribbon trims finish off the collateral, reminiscent of old school exercise books.
Outcome
The OSAAT logo was well received in the market. As a unique, iconic and own-able visual mark, the logo immediately stands out amongst logos of other competitors operating in the field. Its emblem-like nature serves as an immediate visual cue of OSAAT's involvement and focus in the educational field. Furthermore, the logo successfully embodies the organisations key values and purpose.
