Background
While many feel the fear to pause means they should push through, Powerade wanted to flip this idea on it's head by showing how it's all the more reason to embrace the pause. The brief for this commercial was to lift the veil of the pressure that stops athletes, both everyday and professional, from pausing.
Execution
This skillfully crafted commercial demonstrates the art of physical comedy. Similar to slapstick, a form of comedy often reduced to baseless buffoonery, this film ties embarrassing impulses to work out in public to a wider social theme, the fear of missing out... on a workout. Elevating a simple concept with a poignant understanding of the world and what's relatable. The different vignettes of impulsive work outs build as they get funnier and more ridiculous, from an Uber driver doing sit-ups behind the wheel to a police officer practicing squats in the rear view mirror of a driver getting a speeding.
