Description
Services of releasing and passing on open source codes became common around 2011, but it had never been used in the field of entertainment. With this project, we did a thorough research on licensing and the whole concept of content in terms of open source culture, and brought succession and licensing that could happen on the social coding service, Github, to the level of entertainment.
Execution
Perfume’s unique dancing had already been performed in the past by virtual idols such as Hatsune Miku. In other words, it had been circulating as a source for secondary production. The purpose of this project was not to deny the wave of this kind of secondary production generated by consumers, but to back up these activities officially with well-prepared and all-rounded support so these creators could generate infinite variations.
Outcome
The idea was visualized by creators and fans who support Perfume, and over 600 projects rich in variation were generated all around the world. The project won widespread recognition, and now is not only being used in colleges, but also catching the attention of Forsyth Company as well. Although 10 months have already passed since the initial launch of the project, there are still new works being submitted, proving its presence as a long-term approach and being more like a platform for open sources rather than simply being content.
