Background

A threat to the oceans is a threat to all life as we know it, which is why adidas works with Parley for the Oceans in preventing plastic from entering our oceans and transforming it into performance sportswear. From threat to thread— adidas x Parley spins the problem into a solution.

This year was all about running for the ocean (RFTO) and making every kilometer count. For every KM registered in the runtastic app, adidas commits to donate $1 to support the Parley ocean program.

The campaign framework was to educate and explain the bigger cause of the RFTO campaign, encourage people to participate in the running, and celebrate the movement in a sustainable way.

PR’s role was to create local relevance on the global movement, start a conversation about this problem and encourage people to do something about it now - start running for the oceans.

Execution

Erwan’s video, which is 6 minutes and 55 seconds long, was posted on his YouTube channel — over a week after the global launch of Run For The Oceans, adidas x Parley’s running initiative that aims to raise awareness on marine plastic pollution.

In the core of the partnership with Erwan Heussaff lies the agency’s trust in his ability to creatively utilize the digital space, powered by his authenticity and influence, to bring to life the creative idea. Through the video, Erwan began a conversation on the problem and what can be done to help save the oceans now, with something as simple as plogging. To further highlight the local plastic pollution we are facing, Erwan executed the video in one of the busiest avenues in the Metro. The surprise participation of his brother-in-law Nico Bolzico, a social media sensation, also helped increase the reach of the video.
