Background
Built on the insight that NBA players spend half of the season on the road and in hotels, Hotels.com launched the “Hotel like a Pro” campaign featuring NBA stars including two-time MVP Nicola Jokić. Leveraging their relationship as the official travel partner of the NBA, the campaign sought to broaden awareness of the Hotels.com app as well as their new rewards program, One Key.
Execution
For this film, there was a desire to approach the soundtrack with a sense of levity and the goal of elevating it while maintaining its playfulness. "Pony" by Ginuwine hit the mark - instantly recognizable and right on the nose for the story. Jokić has famously mentioned his adoration for horse racing over the NBA, creating a comical connection between our star & the soundtrack. Producing a sparse, instrumental piano cover for our hotel scene kicked it up a notch, serving as a fun Easter egg for the audience and adding a hilarious twist to a song that has a huge cultural impact.
