Description

'Pour Spectacular', is a modern spectacular and is reminiscent of a music video, inspired by the 1930s films of legendary/influential Hollywood director and musical choreographer, Busby Berkley, renowned for his unique style and ability to turn dancers into 'human kaleidoscopes'.

Our team helped bring the choreographed magic to life. the director had a great vision for how they wanted this to look, and that was to keep it as natural and theatrical as possible. Our part was to help out where reality needed it! We helped to visualise and plan the staircase move that outgrows what would be possible in a studio space. We also helped add in some set extensions and perfect the look that had been captured in camera. The opening shot was a fine balance between the real Baileys and an impressive set build of the glass, which tricked the eye on a top down view."

Execution

The first part of the job on Baileys was to help with the set design across 3 to 4 studios at the same time with over 40 dancers! 3D and 2D artists were on hand from the very beginning helping with studio space, camera heights and angles and deciding what could be built physically on set and what needed to be created in CG.

We closely worked with the set designer to create the staircase and the glass featured in the opening shot and the diving shot. We had to work out what had to be built on set and what camera angles needed to be used in terms of style but also in terms of feasibility within the space we had in the studio.

Most of the post was enhancing elements and practicalities that could not be achieved on set.

There was a lot of clean up involved in flame especially around the first shot of the glass. The flame artists also had to make slight tweaks to the dancers to insure they were all moving exactly in time and clone the glasses and dancers.

The ice cube was created in 3D, as was the tunnel the dancer walks through towards the end of the shot. Both the Flame and 3D team worked on the set extensions, as the physical set was limited so they created a much larger ice rink on-screen as well as cloning the stairs to make it look like one long staircase.
