We created Solar Flower Sculptures and put them in public spaces, providing seating areas with charging stations, free wi-fi access, and a light at night. It was all powered with help from the sun, like the solar roof in the 3rd generation Prius.We also retrofitted actual public transit bus shelters with solar panels that powered fans and cooled passengers inside. This experience was designed to emulate the Solar Powered Ventilation System found in the 3rd Generation Prius.
The installation travelled to bus shelters in New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Outcome
Within hours of activation, Reuters’ approval queue was bombarded with enough user submissions to fulfill the entire 3 day duration of the partnership. The number of downloads of the Prius application nearly doubled compared to the week prior.
