Description

The England cricket team has, in recent years, fielded several South African-born players, most notably Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss and Matt Prior. As a result of this the standing joke in South Africa is: "where does the England cricket team stay when they tour South Africa? With their moms." So when South Africa annihilated the English in the first test during the 2012 tour in the UK, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give the England team – or more specifically the South Africans in the England team, some advice. The message was simple. The reason South Africa was running rings around the English was because they grew up on Pronutro, South Africa's favorite breakfast cereal. And what better way to deliver the message than in Afrikaans, with mismatched English translations, on English radio? That way only the team members who grew up in South Africa would understand it - and of course, also the thousands of South Africans living in the UK or visiting London for the Olympic Games at the time.

Playing right into our hands, the then England batsman, Kevin Pietersen, sent a text message to some of the South African players slating his own captain, calling him a "doos" a term which means "box" but can also be used as an insult. Although the actual text message was never released, we still took a stab at recreating it. Kevin Pietersen was dropped from the England cricket team shortly afterwards.
