Description

René Pérez, better known as Residente, is a Puerto Rican rapper, writer, producer and co-founder of the alternative rap group Calle 13.

He is the most awarded artist at the Latin Grammys, with 24 Grammy awards in total.

For his first solo album, he found inspiration in his own genetic heritage. After taking a DNA test, the results pointed to a vast international mix in his ancestral origins. Inspired by this diversity, he embarked on a journey which took him to Siberia, China, Ghana, Georgia, and beyond.

We set out to showcase his first-hand experiences of the cultures that make up his genome, documenting the people he met and made music with along the way.

The message we wanted to share? – We are all connected.

Execution

Race, gender and social status are among the many ways we define ourselves, but by focusing on our differences we forget a fundamental truth: deep down, we’re all human. This idea inspired Musician Rene Perez, aka Residente, to take a DNA test and travel the world exploring his roots.

365 days later, Rene had traveled the world from China to Siberia, meeting with local communities and collaborating with local artists to record a new album inspired by the sounds of the world. An interactive experience evolved over time as we worked to document his global journey. The website features an array of visual metaphors and unique interactions based on the idea of unity, connectedness and establishing a global family.

Users are invited to travel along with Rene, immersing themselves in video content, song clips and geographical stats from each region. A reimagined map of the world enables guests to 'leave their mark' with a short message that future “residents” can see on the homepage. The final product is a culmination of art, music and film that come together to create an inclusive space in which there are no borders. A space in which everyone is welcome and embraced as members of the same world
