Execution
‘My Greatest Feat’ was created. A two-week school activity program incorporated into the curriculum, it required children to count their steps on a free pedometer and attempt a simulated marathon walk the length of New Zealand – a feat of Olympic proportions. Gaining the support of the New Zealand Olympic Committee and over 60 top Olympic athletes, we mailed 2100 primary school principals, rallying them to enlist the support of teachers and parents. Participating classrooms were then equipped with pedometers, classroom support material and an educational progress-tracking website.
It snowballed into the biggest physical activity program ever undertaken in New Zealand.
