Santo was created as part of "Throughlines", a series that invites celebrated cutting-edge creatives to reflect on the continuing influence of art history, both on their own work and on wider culture.

The brief and objective was to engage new audiences in classical art by interpreting it through contemporary choreography.

The Director worked with Seva to create a fresh and compelling depiction of a Black man in a historically white space, from the positioning of Seva within a black halo on a tiled floor (representing power and eternity), to framing his movements between Grecian pillars. Any visual differences between the statues of antiquity and Seva's poses were further blended by the unifying use of black and white.

By seamlessly combining analogue zooms using 70s vintage lenses with mind-bending, time-warping special effects, the film succeeded in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the medium. Drawing heavily upon the rich tapestry of art history, the film aimed to showcase a fusion of old and new, blending traditional references with cutting-edge techniques, vintage aesthetics with ultramodern sound design. The result is a cinematic journey that feels both familiar and entirely new at the same time.
