Overview

Background

Situation:

TURALIO is currently reserved as a last resort, leaving patients stuck in cycles of surgery. TGCT patients have limited awareness of TURALIO and turn to other patients to learn from their experiences.

Brief:

TGCT is a disease that grows back like an incessant weed, locking patients in cycles of surgery. DSI has an opportunity to elevate the voice of a real TURALIO patient, so the TGCT community can identify with someone on the same journey and learn how TURALIO may benefit them.

Objectives:

Showcase the real-life experience of a TURALIO patient through a documentary style video.

- Establish TURALIO as the first approved non-surgical treatment option for TGCT

- Clearly and proactively communicate the benefits of TURALIO

- Support a community of patients who are desperate to learn from their peer’s experience on TURALIO

- Increase awareness of the specialists who understand the nuances of TGCT and TURALIO

Execution

Siobhan’s story is told entirely through a natural environment – her garden. That’s why we used organic materials (handcrafted paper) and stop-motion animation (human touch) alongside her natural VO to bring a tactical realism to her story.

This direction took months of planning and approvals. Over the 14 days of filming, over 850 handcrafted flowers, plants, and towering wild mushrooms were created to bring Siobhan’s enchanting world to life. Light/water effects were applied manually to make the weather, and even changing seasons, feel real.

As a creature universally known to symbolize change and transformation, the dragonfly took the supporting role as Turalio itself. And evil laughter and hissing sounds were used to elevate the villain of our story – the vines, which represented Siobhan’s TGCT.

Developed through a love for craft and scientific innovation, "Siobhan Blooms" was filmed in 14 days, built in 250 hours, and shot in 6,780 frames.
