Description

Social Galaxy is an interactive art installation created by Black Egg where multiple Samsung screens capture your past, mirror your present, and project your vision of the future. A two-part journey, these screens stand as the synthesis of technology and identity, leading you through a mind-bending Installation of your social media history that reveal a larger-than-life reflection of your social media self on a Samsung Brand Wall tunnel, made of 96 55" LCD displays and multiple phones and tablets. Every thought you’ve had and authored, every moment you’ve captured and posted is projected onto these screens to create a unique galactic expanse of the guest’s social consciousness.

Execution

Through the Social Galaxy, the consumer is taken on an unparalleled, digital journey of their social media self, ending with a larger-than-life reflection projected on a Brand Wall, made of 96 55" LCD displays.

The experience begins as the guest uses a Samsung mobile device to input their social media handle and they enter a darkened tunnel. In just a few moments, over 400 Samsung phones, tablets and screens populate the tunnel-like space with every thought authored, moment captured and content shared from the participant’s social media history. An audio overlay reads select posts and is a capstone to the visceral, immersive video content across all the screens. No matter your posting habits, Social Galaxy exposes your patterns in your Instagram behavior by deconstructing your account and presenting it in a different context.

Outcome

The Social Galaxy installation at Samsung 837 became a must-visit destination spot that allowed Samsung to create an emotional connection with consumers and pop culture icons alike. Visited by everyone from LeBron James, to Kim Kardashian, to Kendall & Kylie Jenner, the Social Galaxy had more than 74,000 participants (22% of 837 visitors) with 45,000 Instagram handles entered.
