Background
Mailchimp, a digital marketing platform that helps small-business owners connect with their customers, wanted to create a content platform that empathized with their audiences on a deeper, emotional level. For small-business owners, this meant hitting on themes like finding your true passion, admitting failure and learning when to start over, to name a few. We launched the platform with a series that sidestepped the clichéd, idealized small-business stories we’re used to and focused more on these psychological themes of small-business owners. Taking Stock is about a young photographer stuck in a rut, questioning if photography is still her passion and reconsidering her dream of making it big in New York.
Idea
Taking Stock is a five-part original comedy-series in which we follow one photographer, Hannah, as she navigates the day-to-day woes of working in a quirky stock-photography agency called Frozen Moments. Throughout the series, Hannah has to decide if her true passion is photography or something else entirely. All the while, she must learn to navigate her overly checked-out boss, her all-too-eager ingenue and many other eccentric characters that make up the wonderfully bizarre world of stock photography.
Strategy
Mailchimp is a digital marketing platform that helps small-business owners connect with their customers, but we saw an opportunity to connect with our customers on a deeper, more emotional level. So we created Mailchimp Presents, a new platform of entirely original content, with a range of stories and subject matters to reflect their experiences, create a ]sense of empathy and deepen the relationship with our customer.
Execution
Taking Stock has recently soft-launched on Mailchimp’s platform and social channels, with additional media support coming this spring. While results aren’t in yet, we hope to see an impact among both new and existing users.
