Background
Historically in Mexico, journalists have been victims of acts of violence to be silenced. Unfortunately, this number continues to grow, and violence has become a way of preventing the truth from being told.
We cannot accept silence, so we are we have a commitment with the importance of investigative journalism. Every year we must remember and honor every word, every note from those who were not afraid to tell the truth. 2024 is the 7th anniversary of Miroslava Breach murder, and we won’t be in silence.
Objective:
Raise awareness of the importance of investigative journalism for the society and the increase in violence over this.
Execution
We respected the original articles Miroslava wrote as they appeared in the newspapers. Original typography, original headlines, original paragraphs and original editorial design. And just by positioning different articles in a very particular way, we crafted the beautiful and iconic image of her face. Allowing Miroslava to face off, once again, the people that want the truth in the dark.
Outcome
7 years after the murder of Miroslava, on the day of her anniversary, the conversation about the investigation of the responsible for her murder fired back up by thousands. The National Human Rights Commission showcased the installation and 50,000 people were able to see the experience it in less than 10 days, the action got full national coverage, +3,000 rise in conversation about Miroslava's impune murder and due to the huge impact of the story, the installation will keep on touring through many other importante venues in Mexico City throughout the next months.
