Description
Women in the lower segments are totally depending on men in a hidden way of slavery disguised as marriage.
Economic independence is key to prevent this situation. It is demonstrated that, when women have their own income they gain self esteem and courage to shake and change their situation. They stop being submissive, they become emotionally strong.
We sent hidden messages printed inside thousands of Maggi My Flavour packages.
When they opened the package right before cooking (a moment where the husband is not around) they were able to read the stories and call a number where they could receive assistance and encouragement to start changing their lives.
Execution
We sent hidden encouraging messages printed in the inner part of every Maggi packaging. More than 100 real stories explaining how other women, after living the same situation of domestic violence and abuse were able to reach their economic independence, hence their freedom via Maggi and Plan Barrio from Nestle, a women empowerment plan that helps them to become entrepreneurs.
These packaging containing life changing stories were placed in marginal stores across the country but the most important sampling was done via p2p: entrepreneur women that were already in the plan delivered the stories to other women that were living in abusive relationships.
Outcome
Today, Maggi’s Plan Barrio by Nestlé has added more than 3,000 women to the program and is growing day by day.
This business model has been recognised worldwide.
Calls to the Maggi Plan Barrio phone grew by 60%, and more than 500 new applicants to micro-entrepreneurs have applied to be admitted.
Today sales of the Maggi Plan Barrio women represent 2% of Nestlé Dominicana's DAN sales.
but the most important thing is that women achieved their economic independence, transforming themselves into an engine of development in their homes, their neighborhoods and the country. Since they have been able to improve their economic situation. They can pay for the education of their children, providing a better future for themselves and the country.
