Description
While the titles are based on the director’s insight into the film, we were given the freedom to interpret the story symbolically. We wanted to explore both sides of the sibling rivalry depicted in the film by visualizing the themes of magic versus magic, weapons against ice and fear against gold.
Execution
Our approach was to use striking contrast in color and action to cause editorial jarring as the weapons destroyed objects in both CG and real world photography. With a combination of practical motion photography with CG and motion design, we used ice and gold elements to embody the battle of the warring queens in the film. Real ice sculptures were struck along with real weapon blows caught on a Phantom camera. The elements were enhanced in post, especially in color, and CG elements such as the ice tiara and pendant were added to complement the photography.
