Description

The Killer is a VR narrative horror short and an advocacy film in disguise. In this first-person psychological thriller, you become the captured and tortured prisoner of a merciless madman, experiencing the unimaginable as it unfolds around you in a dark, forgotten place. But in the end, it’s the twist that redefines the film and leaves a lasting impression no viewer will soon forget.

Each scene was created from the real-life stories of UK’s homeless. The Killer is actually homelessness, personified. We expect the homeless to have stories of being ignored and even ridiculed. But a ridiculous amount can tell you stories of being beaten by strangers, pissed on and even burnt alive. And many discuss how they took up harder drugs and used alcohol to cope with their situation.

This VR film is their story created in a way to lure in a new audience over Halloween.

Execution

The VR film was launched over Halloween weekend, in two popular areas of London as a VR horror film, while also being an advocacy film in disguise. In Covent Garden, the film was launched as part of a larger VR Horror films event for Halloween. In Shoreditch, it's premiere was stand-alone, in a refurbished furniture store, that secretly was part of our client's training and recovery program.

Online, the film was released through many VR apps, featured in their horror and Halloween specialty sections.

It was even picked up by BBC Click and promoted globally.

All in, hundreds viewed the film across the London premieres over five days. And it received nearly 100k organic views online.

Outcome

Many VR sites and apps reached out to us, as one of the only narrative films available to feature on their sites. A European VR Cinema reached out to us to add the film into their lineup throughout Europe, a percentage of the overall sales went to our client.

Consumers waited in line, excited and scared to test their wits in a new horror medium, and walked away with a new perspective, and happy to have an new option for giving to the homeless on the street. The free meal cards offered an easy solution when people want to help but aren't sure giving money is the right thing, or just do not carry cash even if they wanted to give.
