Description
We're bringing back 'Little Bit of Luck,' a character created for the Lottery's Take 5 game back in 2008. Turns out, the little guy is still hugely memorable for customers, so he makes an appearance for this new spot, which follows a New Yorker making his way around town while little men -- all of whom vaguely resemble each other -- representing luck, following him around.
Execution
We started off shooting all the backgrounds and the kids with flesh colored ski masks on, to minimize the clean up when painting out the heads. Clean backgrounds and reference passes of the background masks were shot to give an accurate size reference. All camera data and set measurements were recorded to replicate on the green screen stage. After the offline edit was approved, we conformed using the flat tk. Camera moves were stabilized, these shots were used on the green screen shoot to enable the actors to concentrate on head movements only. On the green screen shoot we used Nuke to make pre-comps. This insured lighting and framing matched, during the green screen shoot.
We used Nuke and Flame as our compositing tools. Maya and Massive were used to create the crowd scene in the end. Which is a mix of live action plates of kids in the foreground and extended with CG layers in the distant to populate the whole street. All work was completed using the flat grade and a final color grade was applied after allVFX work was completed.
