Description

To promote a unique exhibition celebrating 70 years of the most popular Czech bicycle brand, we filmed a true story that illustrates just how strong a rider’s relationship with his bike can be. The story of retired professional cyclist (and Czechoslovak immigrant) Róbert Hutyra.

Outcome

The objective of the cinematography approach was to visually capture the look and feel of the communist era in Czechoslovakia, in its naked reality. We didn’t want the film to look glossy, epic, beautiful – but rather raw, true to reality. We used the “New wave of Czechoslovak film” from the 60s represented by Milos Forman, Jan Nemec or Ivan Passer as a reference. All pieces of wardrobe, props, location, everything that “acts” in this film was carefully selected based on studying the personal archive of Robert Hutyra. Same for the actors who are shot in a way so that they don’t feel like great actors – but real people.
