Overview

Description

“The Talk” portrays the intimate discussions between black parents and their children about how to avoid potentially dangerous police encounters, but ends with a white father telling his teenage son that the police are there to help.

The spot draws attention to the stark contrast on this issue in black and white homes, ultimately asking the question, “Do we want one America … or two?”

Execution

In addition to the online video, we teamed up with Brotherhood SisterSol to create a hashtag “#talkaboutthetalk,” which could be used to create organic conversation on their Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages. This hash tag was implemented to give people the chance to have positive dialogue surrounding the issue, as well as give people a place to recount their own stories of having ‘the talk’ with their parents.

Outcome

With the launch of “The Talk,” we were able to be a part of the important conversation that was happening organically in culture. This, along with the broad support from the Bro/Sis Sol organization was extremely fulfilling and was one step closer to the positive change for understanding that the “Talk” was happening in some households, as well as start the conversation of what the implications of that conversation are to society.
