Description
Smartphones make our lives simpler and more convenient. It’s never been easier to communicate. But that doesn’t apply to everyone. For over 650,000 people in Germany alone, what seems the simplest way to communicate is a daily challenge! Because they are blind or visually impaired.
Dependent on their phone’s voice control function, they have to rely solely on their hearing.
How can we help these people to make communicating with their smartphones easier?
Execution
The idea: The visible shield – the world’s first Braille screen protector for smartphones.
Together with BASE, one of Germany’s biggest mobile communications providers, and the Blinden- und Sehbehinderten Verein Hamburg e.V. (Hamburg union for the blind and visually impaired), we developed a protective film that uses Braille.
The visible shield is the world’s first Braille screen protector for smartphones. It lets blind and visually impaired people find their way around their smartphone.
Outcome
The visible shield embossed with Braille allows blind and visually impaired people to use something that’s indispensable to them: their sense of touch.
The visible shield – a simple protective film overcomes barriers.
