We created an interactive gamification concept, based on competition and accompanied training, inspiring people to use the stairs.
We use the new iBeacon Standard for indoor navigation to precisely track the number of stairs climbed by every employee using the TOPRUN app, which we’ve developed completely inhouse.
For this, we placed specially configured mini transmitters (beacons) in the staircase, in the lifts and even at the snack bar around the corner. The competitors automatically receive motivational messages on their smartphone once a beacon is within range. All results are displayed in real time on an internal microsite.
Outcome
After only 10 days of competition the results were overwhelming:
- Over 150 participants from four different companies (more than 70 %, total number of employees)
- Over 800.000 climbed stairs
- 30 % less tardiness
- Changing daily habits of 150 employees
Most importantly: People keep going - every day!
