Description
Shiny Suds begins as a parody of traditional cleaning commercials – we see a Stepford-esque wife enthralled by the cleaning power of her little shiny suds and a clean tub. However, the mood quickly changes as she awakens the next morning to find these chemical suds are far from squeaky clean. Berating her with catcalls and lewd comments, the suds are the perfect example of the toxic residue left over by traditional cleaners. The film tackles the big cleaning companies head on. By parodying a traditional cleaning commercial, the spot flips the idea of “clean” upside down, leaving the viewer feeling dirty – the same effect as chemical residue.By exposing the truth, that the harmful chemicals we clean with are actually making things dirtier, we were able to resonate strongly with our target. Furthermore, as Method’s mission has always been to make products safe and free of toxic ingredients, this film dovetailed nicely with Senator Al Franken’s initiative to pass a law requiring labels to be placed on toxic cleaning products.
