Background

Women are deprived of financial inclusion in India- owing to years of cultural conditioning with financial planning & management being considered a men’s domain. According to a survey in 2015 (UNDP 2015-16), 80% of women don’t have bank accounts- most residing in Tier-2 and 3 cities of India.

For women, financial inclusion is an indispensable goal. Research indicates that financial inclusion has a positive impact on women’s control over household resources by increasing their savings. Also, financial inclusion is important for their empowerment & for elevation of their stature in the house & the society.

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank saw this gap as an opportunity to bring financial equality in the society by aiding women to open their own bank accounts as the first step in their journey towards financial inclusion & independence.
