Description
Two old friends meet for a cup of tea. During their meeting they both comment on the fact they have bad knees. After they part, they buy each other a gift they think will help the other. The gifts are delivered and we see them both at work, one is a Priest, the other an Imam and coincidentally they have both bought each other the same kneepads. We see them both pray and realise that we are more alike than we are different.
Execution
Casting was always going to be paramount in "Vicar and Imam”; the ad’s positive message of interfaith unity would only have an impact if the relationship between the two friends was natural, believable and genuine. Simon knew that performance was critical, but during the casting process, seeing 85 actors in London and New York, he realised none convinced him. During location scouting, Gary a West London vicar, and devout Muslim cleric, Zubeir, were persuaded to audition. They met for the first time in the casting studio lobby and hit it off immediately, and with natural chemistry portrayed old friends perfectly.
