Description
Idea: Vodafone created and launched Istori@, a mobile application that turns Romanian history into an interactive comic book.
This way, learning history becomes *fun* for school children, who have the lessons at their fingertips - quite literally - on the device they use for hours on end every day.
Execution
Building the app took a lot of time and effort. A team of 40+ people (historians, writers, visual artists, art directors, app designers & developers etc) worked 750+ hours to create 35 history lessons, with more than 400 drawings.
We launched Istori@ in December 2017 with an aggressive national online campaign, and amplified in 2018 it with live events in malls and parks (selfies with a historical statue), in school yards (historical graffiti murals), in the classroom (history classes, powered by Istori@).
Outcome
Istori@ was downloaded 12,000 times from Google Play and App Store, during the first 3 months.
It generated 700,000€ in earned media, and was covered by the mainstream, tech and advertising media and blogs in Romania.
The alternative method of learning with Istori@ made such an impact on 8th grade students, that they wished they could study chemistry, physics and math the same way.
