Description
We saw an opportunity to help improve the birth control refill and pill tracking experience for women by creating a new mobile tool that would remind her to take her pill and enable her to refill her birth control prescription with a few taps of a smartphone.
To create this much-needed health utility, we partnered Walgreens prescription technology with Glow, a popular menstrual cycle and fertility-tracking app. By using the health data, patterns and preferences consumers were already entering into the application, we created an easy, simple and convenient birth control refill and reminder system.
Execution
For women using the Glow app taking the pill as their primary birth control, we added a seamless and contextual reminder to automatically refill birth control by simply taking a picture of the prescription pack. Because the app tracks how many pills are left, Walgreens Refill Reminders ensured no woman was ever left empty-handed when she should be taking her pill.
No extra effort or input was needed on behalf of Glow’s users to engage with our feature: two taps, a camera snap and she would be on her way to picking up her refilled prescription. By leveraging existing digital behaviour and extending it in a helpful and needed way, we drove people into Walgreens pharmacies.
Outcome
Walgreens found a new way to start a relationship with the 80% of American women who will take birth control at some point during their lifetime. The integration quickly made Glow one of the top two Walgreens’ prescription technology partners, and created a brand-new use case for the technology. At no cost to Walgreens, we helped put Walgreens’ pharmacy and reproductive health on the home screen of 3 million women.
Walgreens and Glow came together to champion a woman’s right to be happy and healthy, rallying around technology’s growing role in facilitating women’s health.
