Description
We brought together a Glaswegian designer and Yorkshire mill to create a bespoke range of clothing. The designer, Aimee Kent created prints based on the local areas, inspired by the history, architecture, landscape and culture. Clissold Mill, founded in Yorkshire in 1920 created two original fabrics, a tartan for Clydesdale Bank and a tweed for Yorkshire Bank.
Collectively the final designs capture both the cultural heritage and modern vibrancy of the regions whilst celebrating the bank’s people and communities and investing back into the local industries.
Execution
The result was a stylish and authentic expression of the brand. As well as looking great, the uniforms had to be flexible and durable to service all customer facing staff nationwide. The workwear needed to cope with different temperatures and a wide range of tasks; form had to meet function. This led to months of research and development exploring how different fabrics would perform over long periods, finally culminating in a new weave being designed to produce the fabrics. Once this was achieved, a comprehensive wearer trial was undertaken to test the fit and performance of the garments.
The final materials were set off by small touches such as bespoke branded buttons and a care label that reads ‘This clothing has been designed and developed with pride in the UK’ – an expression that respects the brand’s past and embraces the future.
Outcome
Through initial staff research and consultation there has been positive feedback and requests to change over to the new uniform as soon as possible. It is also been considered for further roll-out out in other areas of the business where uniform is not traditionally needed due to staff requests
