Description
Samsung has always been the leader in redefining the Smart TV category. By introducing Voice Control, Gesture Control, and Face Recognition, they’ve effectively eliminated the need for the traditional TV remote. These features mark an evolutionary jump in TV technology, but presented us with our real challenge: getting our potential audience to appreciate this new technology.
Positioned as a masthead on YouTube we created a webcam-enabled banner which allowed users to choose, play and pause videos, selecting it by moving their palm in front of the lens. The video would then play within the frame of Smart TV in the banner.
Execution
We created our simulation around an activity that was both interactive and already ubiquitous in the home: watching YouTube videos.
Positioned as a masthead on the largest video content platform, we created a webcam-enabled banner divided into two parts. The right portion showcased the Smart TV itself, while the left portion allowed users to navigate through content with their hands. It allowed users to choose, play and pause videos, selecting it by moving their palm in front of the lens. The video would then play within the frame of the Smart TV in the right portion of the banner.

Our campaign was the first time such webcam and motion-sensing integration had been used in India.
Outcome
More than 2 million users waved their hands in front of their cameras, getting a first taste of the next standard in TV-user interfaces. The interaction rate was a remarkable 16%, a significant improvement over the 10-12% industry benchmark.
In 3 days, the fixed placement recorded 15.5 million impressions, 173k clicks, and an overall CTR of 1.11%.
In addition to driving hugely satisfying engagement, the creative was featured in DoubleClick’s global rich media gallery. We’re waving a fond farewell to the remote, but looking forward to a bright future for Samsung’s Smart TVs.
