Description
A subway bench is centered in the window with curtains directly behind, and monitors display an idle platform. A sensor tracks the movement of patrons passing on the street. When recognized, a video of a NYC subway approaching the platform plays and fans are activated. The curtains billow to reveal DKNY mannequins. Inside the store, visitors can hear a patchwork of stories heard inside the subway. They form an excerpt of this multifaceted city.
The piece works because of its simplicity – movement generates wind, wind blows curtains. So the interaction is triggered by something that makes sense to the content. There is no need for instructions as it engages people by using what they are already doing: walking on the sidewalk. The reveal of the mannequins is a "secret" that you activate.
