Description
Hip-hop feuds are pretty common in the United States.
Legends include Biggie and Tupac. 50 Cent and Rick Ross.
And now, Wingstop and Wendy’s.
Last fall, one tweet sparked a feud between the two restaurants that would go down in battle rap history.
When Twitter user @FatLaz901 called out Wendy’s to respond to one of Wingstop’s rap lyric tweets, all twitter-hell broke loose.
The two brands posted rap lyrics back-and-forth all night, until a truce was finally called. But not before garnering 207.8 million impressions, and making real waves in pop culture.
Execution
Wingstop’s brand is often referenced in trending posts on social media. Whether it’s a popular gif or the newest hot single, we’re frequently found in those mentions.
One of these posts was a trending image of video game store, Gamestop and Wingstop side-by-side, where a user also referenced the rap group Migos, who are known for their unique lyrical style.
Being one with the culture, we threw down one of the most infamous twitter rap lines of 2017, the first spark of an hours-long social media exchange that would take twitter by storm.
Twitter user @FatLaz901 called out burger chain Wendy’s to respond to this rap lyric tweet, and a rap feud was born.
Wingstop turned this simple tweet into something huge. We took on a Goliath-QSR social brand bar-for-bar and earned more social impressions than ever before, simply by stepping up to the mic.
Outcome
Without spending a dime, this twitter rap battle earned Wingstop:
-207.8 million impressions
-4.3 million engagements
-7,500 new Wingstop fans in one week
