OVERVIEW

Description

Some of the greatest writers of our time started their careers in ad agencies, like F.Scott Fitzgerald, Salman Rushdie, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Dorothy Sayers and Joseph Heller.

To help bring this insight to life we have briefly revived the advertising careers of these writers in order to create sensational headlines in creative industry digital publications like Campaign and Little Black Book.

By positioning the stories as current news, articles featuring world-famous authors grabbed readers' attention even more than the latest dirt on existing industry names and made them realise that they too could have a chance at becoming a published writer.

Execution

We revived the advertising careers of fiction masters to create sensational, but true, headlines and intriguing digital content.

From Joseph Heller's wave-making decision to take his writing talents outside the industry after spending 3 years at Merrill Anderson in NYC, to F. Scott Fitzgerald's gossip-worthy resignation at Barron Collier NY, where he wrote the famous slogan “We keep you clean in Muscatine” beaming out from LBB Online, to the announcement of Salman Rushdie’s shock departure from O&M London after creating the hit Incredi-bubble slogan for Aero on the pages of The Campaign,

Once our target is hooked by the intriguing content, its true intention is revealed: the Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize is looking to unearth the next big name in fiction.

The campaign went live on 28th April.

Outcome

The competition was launched on the 24th of April 2017 and has already achieved the aim of garnering wide coverage in the advertising and marketing press. Even LBB engaged with our content, playing along with the idea on its weekly editorial op-ed, it was featured on the “Too hot to miss” section and also sent to the LBB’s email list making the idea the reach more creatives from the Industry. In the first two days the articles were shared 96 times.

The completion closes in 31st of August 2017 so we await the total number of entries, which we anticipate, due to our much wider scope of reach, will be much higher than the previous three years.
