Execution

To help launch Yahoo!’s new home page, Yahoo! developed a promotion that embodied the vibrant, fun sprit of Yahoo! while traversing cultural differences, multiple languages, and geographic dispersion. Yahoo! launched the world’s largest online Time Capsule, inviting the global community to make contributions through a visually-stunning microsite, which enabled 500 million users to celebrate where we as a world have come since the birth of the Internet and provide a snapshot of who we are in 2006. Yahoo! also projected the content onto the ancient Native American pueblo of Jemez and simultaneously sent into space via a laser light beam.

Outcome

• Yahoo! users in over 250 different countries made more than 170,000 contributions to mark their place in history.

• The microsite registered 4 billion page views, and in the 30 days that the Time Capsule was open, more than 3 million unique global visitors browsed or contributed to the Time Capsule.

• Global PR results include: more than 550 print/online publications, 325 blog posts, 175 million global media impressions and 1,432 broadcast mentions worldwide• The Jemez webcast resulted in nearly 130,000 streams for 50,000+ viewers who watched over 2,400 hours of video.
