OVERVIEW

Description

The VeaseR is the first italian teaser in VR (hence the neologism), powered by HTC Vive and created for the promotion of the sci-fi short movie YONDER, directed by Roberto Saku Cinardi.

The idea is having a teaser-like experience in which the viewer is transported inside the world where the movie is set, as a character of the movie itself, to first-hand experience the feelings instead of just watching them.

Three interactive environments from the movie are recreated, an unprecedented way for the viewer to learn about the movie plot, from inside the story.

This VeaseR has a limited duration of about 5 minutes, after which you will be brought back to the main menu: the storytelling is partially adaptive and made to fit in the 5 minutes timespan.

Additionally, the VeaseR also allows the viewer to watch the conventional trailer, projected on a screen inside a VR environment.

Execution

The movie director had asked for a photogrammetric scan of the volcanic crater where part of the movie is set, in order to allow the director to pre-visualize some key elements that would be added later during post-production (specifically the mysterious Yonder tower).

The R&D and VR team from the agency, that was in charge of VFX, color grading, compositing and finalization of the movie Yonder, decided to use this photogrammetric data to recreate the volcanic crater with Vive technology, and they realized the possibility of creating promotional content that could tease the movie.

The team then wrote a script and created a 5 minutes experience, recreating elements and environments that are part of the movie (like a shed, for example), that the user will be able to interact with, unlocking the discovery of key parts of the movie plot.

The result is a promotional product for a cinematographic content.

The traditional name for this would normally be Trailer or Teaser, but in the context of VR we decided to coin the portmanteau word “VeaseR”.
