Credits
Write a short summary of what happens in the film.
In these spots, game action recreates player POV, showcases in-game achievements, and builds to a climax, then flips with a mischievous pivot.
Camo recreates a forested game sequence. Under heavy fire, a soldier (player) sprints into a seemingly abandoned bunker. He spies health prize (pile of MD). Approaching, a stun grenade suddenly appears. Awakening, his prize materializes as a ghillie-suited opponent, who blows a kiss and drinks to victory. The joy of winning reinforces the call to action to redeem 2XP points from MD bottle caps.
Tank recreates a climatic sequence. Spent and crawling toward relief, he’s surrounded by an opposing squad. Every gamer knows the incoming taunts. However, he’s saved up his secret weapon. He savors the impending reversal, repeating “You’re in my parking spot”. His requested drop falls from the sky, blowing away his foes, as he smirks while unlocking his new Tank with the fob he earned.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Serious gamers want every possible advantage as soon as a highly anticipated game is released. Being one of the first to ‘level up’ with quickly earned rewards is a key to dominating rivals. Our research explored the emotional and cultural drivers underneath this well-known desire to win. We focused on learning more about how they like to win within these massive multiplayer games.
Gamers don’t just want to dominate the leaderboard, they want to instigate. Final scores are great, but real victory lies in the frustration and embarrassment of your foes. The shit-talking. The teabagging. The antics punctuating an intense firefight. Feats of ridiculousness immortalized across millions of social media views. Wins and score streaks come and go, but living rent-free inside someone’s head?
Every gaming detail was faithfully recreated – weapons, gear, sounds, and settings. Authentic action drew in the viewer and mischief inspired the plot twist.
Tell the jury about the production design / art direction.
Every frame reflected this new release. Rigorous authenticity and theatrical production values were essential to recreate a believable and immersive dive into the action. The ultimate weapon in Modern Warfare was so secret that everyone involved signed NDA’s. The actors and crew didn’t know ‘what’ was being dropped. As a stand-in, a two ton iron plate was dropped for a practical effect.
Location scouting found a battle setting replica in an abandoned Hungarian power plant. A master armorer in the Czech Republic recreated real (non-firing) versions of in-game weapon. All gear and weapons load-outs were authentic in every detail, down to face smudging and uniform trim. A stunt team with harnesses and pulleys recreated blown away bodies. Every detail down to the whimsical fob dangle was authentically recreated.
Post-production integrated game sounds and layers of visual effects to replicated everything from the landing tank to the fob’s unlocking chirps.
