EntrySummary
In Australia, dogs really are man’s (and woman’s) best friend. Canines are much loved – often jokingly referred to as ‘fur kids’, representing another child in the family. In fact, Australians love dogs so much, it’s a $7 billion dollar industry.
Owners show a lot of affection for their dogs, often getting up close and personal, so one thing everyone can relate to is bad breath. But sometimes this can be a more serious problem than people think. Research shows that bad dog breath can be the first sign of periodontal disease, which affects 80% of dogs over three years old.
For those who aren’t aware, periodontal disease in dogs is caused by a build-up of plaque and tartar. Left untreated it can spread to vital organs such as the liver, kidneys and heart – a serious issue all owners would avoid if they knew there was a simple treatment.
