CampaignDescription
The one and only villain.
Ubisoft is one of the only game publishers to communicate with great live action commercials for the launch of their new games. In order to establish the strong and charismatic villain, our idea was to use Greg Bryk for the live action commercials but also for the motion capture of the whole game.
So, people playing the game were able to find exactly the same personality and intense madness with Joseph in the commercials.
Execution
At first Greg Bryk was totally immersed in the character of Joseph and we captured him in motion capture for all the scenes of the game (gestures, voice, attitude).
Then, once the villain's personality was perfectly defined, the two live action trailers were written, immersing you in the depth of the madness of the Prophet.
For the first time, the coherence between the live action world and the game world was perfectly preserved, creating an intense experience for the gamers that they would not forget.
Outcome
Far Cry 5 is the best launch in recent Ubisoft history.
The Baptism film has totaled over 17.9 million views
The Sermon, it’s companion film has totaled over 12.5 million views.
Relevancy
Hitchcock would say “The more successful the villain, the more successful the picture”
And a good video game is like a good movie: it needs a good bad guy.
Especially if we are talking about the fifth installment of a series, which had to be reinvented.
In Far Cry, the bad guy is the charismatic prophet of a sect called Joseph Seed.
It was crucial to find the actor who can embody both the guru in the films and the game. With his experience in feature films (Saw5.7) and series (Saving Hope) Canadian actor Greg Bryk was the perfect casting.
Strategy
A video game is like an action movie that lasts thirty hours. There are breathtaking landscapes, chases, complex characters, villains, violence, twists… and what makes people want to see an action movie? A good trailer. We wrote and designed the trailer as a teaser that takes you into the dark world of the Prophet, messes with your head, gives you just enough to want to see more and then end with a surprise twist.
Synopsis
It has been two years between the release of Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5 and fans were very eager to meet the new bad guy in their favorite license. The pressure not to disappoint was enormous, as the four previous editions of Far Cry were hugely successful thanks to the personality of their villain.
