This is the first episode of The Finest Herb, a web series hosted by Aunt Mary, who shares her tips for how to grow the strongest “basil” (code word for cannabis). Her explanations of why Mighty Blend is the best potting mix for recreational growers is delivered in her own personal style, comprising unexpected musical outbursts (with instrument!), spontaneous dancing, lilting speech and facial expressions that bloom and evolve. The vibrant visual effects mirror the fantasies, kaleidoscopes and colours that blossom in her thoughts and in her voice.

Aunt Mary is embedded within a dynamic visual landscape that is a remix of popular Internet memes. Despite her age and appearance, Aunt Mary’s singing, dancing and joie de vivre seamlessly meld with these popular themes and the “disruptive” visual effects. Her upbeat approach is timeless and infectious.

We were told by many production companies that it would be difficult to find a female performer in that age group, capable of singing and dancing through a web series about growing cannabis. On casting day, we auditioned over 10 women and Claire was a stand-out from the moment she walked into the room, bundled up in her winter coat and carrying a ukulele. Not only had she prepared the script, but she had also improvised a jingle for Mighty Blend as well. We felt great pride in being able to cast such a talented female performer for a comedic role.
