Background

Four of five Indian mothers express concern about their child's growth. However, their focus is primarily on physical growth, especially during a child's formative years. Recognizing the significance of nutrition in fostering healthy development, mothers are vigilant in not letting their children skip a meal. This improved attention towards physical growth is a product of learning through advice from family members, doctor guidance, and numerous nationwide campaigns that emphasize the importance of the right food for optimal growth. However, when it comes to mental development, she gets little to no help because, unlike physical health parameters, where she can observe their child's well-being, the absence of visible indicators for mental development and advice from others in opposition to the "physical development" of the child leaves mothers unaware of the urgency of educational intervention.

Describe the creative idea

As parents, especially mothers who focus on development in the formative years because that’s the only advice she usually gets “to feed them right so they can grow up strong,” we present “MaAI” (Hindi word for Mothers), an AI Companion that helps mothers learn that children need to not just eat the right food, but also feed their minds with the right information so they can grow.

MaAI is a tracker that helps you identify milestones with the help of food:

These milestones can easily be tracked at home through food given to the child by the Anganwadi nutrition program. This will leverage food for the body to grow and for the mind to learn and help mothers become aware of the need to start education early.

Describe the strategy

According to a survey called The Digital Usage of the Indian Moms, WhatsApp is every mom’s best friend, especially for new moms who use WhatsApp to reach out for help for their kid’s well-being. While, Google Voice Assistant is used in India more than the rest of the world.

While most of the people our Anganwadi mother talks to on WhatsApp are helping her with her kid’s physical milestones, we add MaAI to her phonebook that will converse with her via voice notes and text messages (In Hindi and local languages) to help her kids reach the education milestones on time. Simultaneously, Google Voice will be used to trigger an AR when the mom says "MaAI" to help make the tracking process easier through interactive visuals triggered by Food exercises.

Describe the execution

Add MaAI to your phonebook.

Reaching out to the Anganwadi registered mother, we will inform the mother with visual infographics and audio messages to bring awareness to her that "food is not just for the body, but also for the mind," with a "how-to" guide to monitoring brain development!

Monitor with MaAI

Once added to the phonebook, MaAI will use the kid’s data (Available with Anganwadi) to prompt messages frequently to help the mom monitor the progress of her kid. To help ease the process, we will use Google AR, triggered by voice command, to view an interactive tutorial to help the monitoring process.

Recommend MaAI to Other Mothers

After every milestone their kid completes, we will give out customized messages that celebrate her kid’s milestone that they can forward to their friends and family with a prompt that can help other mothers also.
