Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The scenes are centred around the assembly of a dinner table featuring Indian cuisine through a stop-motion mechanism and meticulous adjustments. As the preparation of the feast setting begins, a pair of imperfect samosas appear that look anything but appetising. At that moment, the counter begins logging the number of attempts it takes to achieve the correctly cooked samosas. The set-up for the dinner table begins all over again, and along with the perfect samosas and a few other dish options, we find a burnt naan bread, with the failed attempts on the counter continuing to incrementally rise once again. As the film unfolds and we finally have all dinner options flawlessly prepared, we see a sudden shift to the lighting of the set-up, as an illuminating ray of sunshine covers the whole table. Lastly, the counter shows the number of attempts it took to prepare the dinner table.

Background

In the vibrant Indian culture, food holds a deep significance as it symbolises devotion and care. As important as food is for the children’s endurance, so is their education. With mothers having gaps in their own education, they struggle to assist their children with their learning pursuits. Despite their self-doubts and mishaps along the way, mothers always pick themselves up and commit their heart and soul to providing the best food for their children, so why not do the same for their education?

By conceptualising an Indian feast to showcase the hurdles that mothers encounter, we are creating an emotional connection with young mothers, while highlighting the perseverance and determination that defines them in pushing forward for the betterment of their children.

We ignite a sense of confidence, empowerment and belief through a culinary journey to inspire Indian mothers to relentlessly commit to the education of their children.

Strategy and Insight

Indian women begin their betrothed life at a young age and find themselves sacrificing their educational endeavours, lacking exposure and experiences, as they start developing their essential domestic skills, in order to take care of their families. By tapping into the relatable experience of persevering to cook a traditional feast for the nourishment and endurance of their children, we parallel that to the significance of education, while focusing on a mother’s unwavering dedication. Food is being used as a mechanism to emotionally resonate with our target audience; young mothers, who as the primary caregivers, have the power to shape their children’s educational future through their determination and support.

Our film distribution was formatted by considering that Indian mothers have limited internet access. We will start off with a TVC, along with non-skippable YouTube Ads of a shorter film version and, with governmental insights, we will also share it using WhatsApp Video Ads for greater exposure. Stills from the film can be turned into billboards, in a split–screen format, showing an empty setting opposite the final dinner set-up, with the number of attempts mentioned in the middle of the two visuals, along with the tagline ‘Nourish your children’s minds, as you do their bodies’.

Our film communicates the message that although the task of educating their children may seem daunting, mothers can stay resilient, gain the confidence to overcome that hurdle and have a transformative impact in nourishing their children’s future.
